GYPSY
is owned and handled by Ralph and Barbara Darrow of Redding, CA.
Gypsy was born on May 5, 2003 on a working ranch in Cottonwood, CA.
She refused to jump off the dock for three years, just didn't want
to go. We tried her occasionally, just in case she changed her mind.
Finally in summer of 2006 she decided to jump. After very little
training, she earned her Senior Jumper Title in Auburn in 2006, in
one weekend. She is also an accomplished flyball racer. She races
for Strike Force Flyball Racing Club in Redding, and has earned her
FD, FDX, FDCH, FDCH Silver, FDCH Gold, and FM titles. She is a
therapy dog for Prescription Pets and is visiting
patients in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. She has also been introduced to agility,
herding, Frisbee and Canine Freestyle Dance, though she doesn’t not
compete in those sports. Gypsy is a bit intense, and obsesses over
cell phones, blow dryers, websters, and water hoses.

Robin
is an 8 yr old female lab, owned and handled by
Ida Griffin.
She enjoys, swimming, hiking, Flyball racing, Dock Jumping and most
of all Chuck it. If you’re holding a ball in your hand be careful
because she is liable to jump up, spring off of you and snatch it
out of your hand!
I
adopted Robin when she was three yrs old. I got her on Christmas
Eve. She was the runt of her litter so she is smaller than your
average Labrador. I got her from an elderly man who could no longer
take care of her. They say that dogs sometimes take on habits from
their owners. The previous owner must have had false teeth and used
to click them a lot because when I got Robin she used to walk around
clicking her teeth. It sounded just like someone who had
dentures! She no longer clicks her teeth but now she does a deep
sigh every once in awhile. I noticed that if I sat down and did a
deep sigh she would too. Now she will do a deep sigh every once in
awhile.
Robin likes to dock jump! One time I was hiking with my friend Sara
and her dog Bear, a boxer. When we would come to some water Robin
would be all over it bringing me a stick to toss into the water
so she could splash in but Bear would never go in. One day we came
to a pool of water and Bear went slowly very slowly wading in. Robin
got sooo excited she scrambled up to a very tall rock and jumped in
splashing Bear and all of it. It was hilarious!
I
love my Robin!

Teva
(tee-vah) is a yellow Labrador retriever that was born on September
22, 2005. She is 23” at the withers and weighs 80 pounds. She is
owned by Jeff and Kathy Vanatta. Teva is new to Splash Dogs.
She took her first formal training this past fall. She was in her
first competition in January at the International Sportsman’s
Exposition held at Cal Expo in Sacramento. In March, Teva competed
in Phoenix, AZ. and took 6th place overall. Teva is still
learning the basics of jumping. She’s very enthusiastic when it
comes to training. She sits and whines until it is time to go. Teva
is also an avid bird hunter, waterfowl or upland game it doesn’t
matter as long as she gets to go. If she sees me get my camo or guns
out she goes nuts. She’s hard to keep in a boat to go fishing
because she wants to jump in the water while we are moving.

My name is
Honey
(officially it’s Heathers Honey). I am a 48lb Golden Retriever. I
was one of 7 puppies born on May 4, 2005 in Sacramento California. I
came to live with Tami King in Redding on June 26, 2005. My
training was started early at River Dog Agility & Training Center
with Lyn Murray. I have been a good student and know all the basic
stuff, and am pretty well behaved. I have taken classes in Agility,
passed the Canine Good Citizens Test and am working toward
participating in the prescription pet program. I am pretty new to
DOCK JUMPING but I LOVE IT! I am also a member of Strike Force Fly
Ball Team.
In my spare time
I enjoy playing with my friends at River Dog’s day camp, taking
walks with my family, watching Animal Planet and of course chasing
the ball!! I also enjoy going out on the lake in our family boat to
swim and catch some rays. When I am at home I love to swim in our
pool and again chase balls around the pool. At this time I’m an only
child but some day I hope to get a brother or sister to play with.
I’m a spoiled loved dog!

Luke left this world unexpectedly in May of this year due to an
apparent heart attack. Luke was a fun loving dog that would stop at
nothing to get his toy or the bird he was after. In 2004 I started
competing with Luke in Dock Dogs and when the year finished he was
ranked officially at number eight in the nation. He was
unbelievable on the docks at 90 pounds. Luke loved the water and
when we were driving and we were approaching water he just knew it
and would start to whine like a little baby. In 2004 he was ranked as the number one Dock Dog on the west coast
with a personal best in competition of 23’ 8”.
When not doing
his jumping, hunting, or playing with his numerous toys, Luke was as
sweet of a dog as one could ask for. He was a gentle giant with my
kids and all the kids he came in contact with. Although not fond of
many adults, Luke loved every kid like there were one of his.
Men were not a favorite of Luke’s either but he loved Ralph
Darrow like he was his own.
While hunting Luke always seemed
to find trouble. As a young pup out learning how to pheasant hunt
he once ran over the side of an embankment and plunged some thirty
feet below. Luckily there was a pond there to catch him but I
should have known at that minute we were in for a long ride with
good old' Luke. The year we competed in Dock Dogs I decided to keep
him from hunting because of his little mishaps in the field. As
pheasant season was closing though I thought, "You know Luke is a
hunting dog first and a Dock Dog second", so I decided to take him
out one time even though the National Dock Dog Finals were to be
held in about four weeks. Well Luke did as only Luke could do. You
guessed it, while chasing a downed pheasant he ran through a barbed
wire fence like it wasn't there and caught a barb in the chest that
tore him 17 inches down the middle. Oh it's times like that I will
remember forever. Not to mention having to carry a 90 pound dog
about a mile thinking my best friend was going to bleed to death
right there before my eyes.
Luke left this world way to
soon. I miss you Luke you big old' knucklehead and I will see you
again someday my friend.
